UNITES Professionals is the only Union for IT & ITES employees in India.
Affiliated to UNI Global Union (http://www.uniglobalunion.org), which is a global union for skills and services with 20 million members in 900 unions across the globe.
UNITES strives to create a distinct and cogent link between employers & employees at all levels.
Human element is the key factor input that provides this hybrid service with the help of technology. Technology is changing at a rapid pace and humans find it hard to keep pace with that change. Furthermore, customer expectation is a quick response for an urgent need, as many of them are willing to spend money to save time. But on the other hand, employees in Software companies, BPO's and Call Centres spend time in work shifts doing a repetitive job to save money for giant multinational companies and all that at the expenses of their prime youthful age leading in to many long-term repercussions to emerge in a rapidly changing Indian society.
There is an urgent need to address to the issues raised by these employees, "decent work" is the norm that every worker expects in this world to live his life to the full, if the young feels that "life is worthless" then that opens up to a serious problem. Safety and Security has also become a hot issue in this industry.
Introducing collectivism against individualism to minimise the fear of isolation, safety and security of young employees who operates in cyber cells in software companies, call centres, and BPO’s, through trade unions will be the main goal of UNITES. Development objective of our organisation is to establish free and democratic trade unions across IT/BPO hubs in India in the form of UNITES - the Union for IT & IT Enabled Services.
UNITES was established in September 2005 following a year of preparatory work under a UNI Apro/SASK Finland Project designed to facilitate the unionisation of IT & ITES employees. The project effort is to develop UNITES into an independent dynamic modern trade union, recognized by authorities, which could effectively engage in meaningful social dialogue on behalf of members with other stake holders in the industry in India.
Project objective being "Organizing IT, Call Centre and BPO employees in to trade Unions", identifying issues, development of campaign strategies, and capacity building through leadership development are main activities that formulates different components of the total project. Activities included in the project are designed with built-in evaluation and monitoring mechanisms. In line with the project’s objective, namely to support formation of a new union for young and educated workers, the performance indicators to assess the success of the project at various levels will be people's participation. This will include the numbers joining the unions, participation in training courses, seminars and workshops. Voluntary participation of members and potentials in organizing and recruitment campaigns, and other activities organized by UNITES at state and all India level will be one of the factors to be considered.
We here at UNITES look forward for valuable support and active participation by employees of IT/ITES companies in building UNITES in to a strong employees union across India. |
